How SongFromShorts.com collects, uses, shares, and protects data when you use our song identification service

2026/07/16

Effective Date: July 16, 2026 Last Updated: July 16, 2026

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy explains how SongFromShorts.com ("we," "us," or "our") handles data when you use songfromshorts.com. SongFromShorts.com is an informational and analytical service that identifies songs from publicly accessible YouTube Shorts and videos using audio fingerprinting.

2. Information We Collect

Information you provide

  • Account information: Your name, email address, and authentication credentials when you register.
  • Payment information: Billing details required for a purchase. Stripe processes payments; we do not store full card numbers or security codes.
  • Submitted URLs: YouTube Short and video URLs you submit for song identification.
  • Support information: The name, email address, and message you send through our contact form.

Information collected automatically

  • Device and access data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, requested page, and request time.
  • Usage data: Pages visited, service interactions, and diagnostic or security events.
  • Cookies and similar technologies: Essential, preference, analytics, consent, and—on selected public content pages—advertising technologies. See our Cookie Policy.

Audio processing

When you submit a YouTube URL, the service temporarily processes a short audio segment to identify the song. The segment is not published, redistributed, used to train a model, or retained after processing. We do not provide the source video or audio for download.

3. How We Use Information

We use information to provide song identification results, manage accounts and credits, process payments, answer support requests, send transactional messages, maintain security, prevent abuse, diagnose errors, and improve the service. Where permitted, we also use aggregate site analytics and fund selected public content pages with advertising.

We do not sell personal information. We do not provide submitted YouTube URLs, temporary audio, or song-identification results to advertising providers for ad targeting or profiling.

4. Advertising and Consent

Once advertising is enabled, we may use Google AdSense only on selected public content pages, such as the homepage, song-finder guides, and published blog pages. Ad-serving code is not used on authentication and password-reset pages, account and settings pages, payment pages, contact and legal pages, or error pages.

Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, device identifiers, and page-interaction data to serve, limit, measure, and protect ads. Depending on your region and choices, ads may be personalized or non-personalized. Learn how Google uses data on partner sites at Google's Privacy & Terms site, and manage Google ad personalization through My Ad Center.

We use Google Funding Choices, a consent management platform, to present consent or privacy choices where required, including for users in the EEA, United Kingdom, Switzerland, and supported US states. You can change or withdraw a choice through the privacy controls made available on the site or through your browser and Google settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

5. Legal Bases for Processing

Where the GDPR or similar law applies, our legal bases are:

  • Contract: Providing the service, account, credits, and purchases you request.
  • Legitimate interests: Security, fraud prevention, reliability, and service improvement, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent: Optional analytics, personalized advertising, and other non-essential storage or processing where consent is required.
  • Legal obligation: Tax, accounting, dispute, and regulatory requirements.

6. Service Providers and Data Recipients

7. Retention

  • Account and identification history: Kept while the account is active and deleted or de-identified after a valid deletion request, subject to legal obligations.
  • Payment records: Kept as required by tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution laws.
  • Support messages and security logs: Kept only as long as reasonably needed for support, security, and legal purposes.
  • Temporary audio: Discarded after identification processing finishes.
  • Consent records: Kept as necessary to remember and demonstrate your privacy choices.

8. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on your location, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection; withdraw consent; opt out of targeted advertising or certain sharing; and appeal a denied privacy request. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Contact [email protected] to exercise a right. We may need to verify your identity and will respond within the period required by applicable law. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, though essential functions may stop working.

9. Security and International Transfers

We use HTTPS, access controls, and other reasonable technical and organizational safeguards. No Internet service can guarantee absolute security. Providers may process data in countries other than yours; where required, transfers rely on recognized safeguards such as adequacy decisions or Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Children's Privacy

The service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal data so we can review and delete it.
